Filming & Editing the main exercise for 'watch your back'

I think the filming was successful although amy failed to come as she wasn't feeling to good on the day. I think the rest of the group pulled together really well under the pressure though. We filmed our final exercise under the rounabout near the jubilee clock in Weymouth. The opening sequence was for a new fiction film based on a girl getting stalked by her boyfriend after an arguement.

It wasn't intentional but the weather was cold and dull so i think this will show pathetic fallacy and reflect the mood of the opening sequence. There were a few problems with filming at the subway though. The first thing was the rain it kept getting on the equipment so we had to use an umbrella the second problem which was the worse was that we were filming in a public place so people kept walking past so we had to keep refiliming things as it was unreliable when they would next walk past again.

We were meant to use amy's friend to film but amy was ill, so there was a change of plan and we ended up using holly's friend james instead. Lucky mia was okay on the day of filming so we didn't need to change the girl actress. We filmed the flashbacks of the girl and her boyfriend 'mia' and 'james' at james house, which was good as the weather had no way of effecting the footage. We then walked to the subway and filmed the boyfriend later on in the day chasing the girl. Earlier in the day Holly had spoke to the police to make sure it was fine for us to film it there an make them aware its us incase anyone rings in thinking it was real life. We did the over the shoulder point of view shot of the boy watching his girlfriend walking along the subway, i think this worked really well and gave it a eerie feel.

I think we stuck to the storyboards well and just added a few more shots for the editing process. We filmed mia holding onto the bar instead of a shot of the moon as it was to dark for us to see the moon through the film.

We edited the film on windows movie maker and added in the titles on adobe premier pro. We also made the flashbacks grey so that people new it was a flashback.

Planning the final project

Planning the final project hasn't been as hard as i thought it would be as we all did an equal amount of work towards it. Also when we were first told about the planning we heard it was going to be much harder then the pliminary exercise but i was surprised as i found it ruffly the same with both. I think this might be because we worked so well together in a group and knew what each other was doing.

Compared to the pliminary exercise i think we we're much more organised with our roles of with who was doing what with the planning i think this helped us to work faster and with more detail.
I took the role with tom to plan our the story board an do the drawings i found this interesting as i didnt get a chance to do it last time. The story board needed a few adjustments when we looked at it as a group because we needed to make the opening sequence longer.

For the final exercise we all chose to do it at the subway near the jubilee clock, as we thought it would be easier for us all to get there because for the pliminary exercise we did it at bridport which meant me and holly had to travel up to meet tom and amy. Holly took pictures of where we we're going to film before so we could do an analysis. I think we all worked well in a team to know what we were doing before we decided to film. Our film was aimed for years 18-25 and example of the genre films we chose we're kidulthood, adulthood and Harry brown.

The first reflective main exercise blog entry thing!

The main exercise is different from planning the pliminary exercise as you need to add more detail. For example the story boards for the pliminary exercise were much more brief whereas for the main exercise we wanted it to be much more detailed as it would show a better understanding of what we were going to film. Also we decided to take pictures of where we were filming because none were taken for the pliminary exercise.

I think the main stumbling points will be filming when its dark as we are doing a night scene under the subway as we will be more likely to trip if we cant see where we're walking also we might lose the camera if we put it down as it might be to dark to see, so we've decided to take torches to prevent this from happening.

To improve my perfomance for the final exercise i am going to make sure i get down there on time which won't be a problem as where we are filming is close to my house so i don't have to worry about transport either.

Im also going to make sure i know exactly what im doing before we film, so that im not panicing when it gets to filming.

Filming and Editing the preliminary exercise

I was unable to make the filming as we didn't realise the bus was going a different route to Bridport from weymouth, and there was no other transport i could use. The rest of my group showed me the film and what they edited they said they had a problem with the filming as where they filmed was a public place. I think it is good we decided to film in bridport cause its showed us not to film far away next time as it is unrealistic, i think i can improve next time by planning the travel better if we don't film are final piece in Weymouth. I was also diappointed as i didn't get a chance to learn how to use a camera but Holly and Tom showed me what they had to do. Im sure are group have learnt whats practical for our final piece. Next time i want to get more involved with the editing

Preliminary exercise

When we was first told about the preliminary exercise I was excited because it was very basic so gave us the chance to use our imagination and be creative whilst we were planning for the film. We all thought it would be best to do a crime related film like 'The Bill'. We went through different idea's such as an interview with the police but in the end we decided to do drug dealing as it was more original. We all looked at a clip of Kidulthood which helped us use the right language for the script and gave us different ideas.
When i first heard that two members of our group lived in Bridport i thought it was going to be tricky for us all to meet up out of college and film but it was easy as we all made decisions well and planned everything like transport. We finally decided to film in Bridport at St'Marys playing park as we thought it would be easier. I think the group worked well together as we all shared responsibilities and organised our roles well. I had never worked with anyone in my group before so i was quite nervous to see if they were open to new ideas and if we could share equal roles but it worked really well. My role for the film was cameraman when we first discussed this I was excited and scared as i had never used a camera before so it was quite daunting at first to i would be filming the whole thing on my own, but everyone was understanding which was helpful. Amy's role was scriptwriter, Tom's role was editing and Holly's role was director. I think we all worked well with the roles we had.
When we first decided on the location where we were going to be filming I was really nervous as I had never been there before, but Amy and Tom reassured me and Holly it was easy to get there as we both live in Weymouth and had never had to travel there on our own. The location sound like a good match for the theme we wanted for the idea of two people meeting in a park, dealing drugs and having a small conversation.
At first I thought I was out of my depth as i had never done media or used a camera, but it was easier then i thought it would be as we all worked well with each other and helped each other out when needed. Also the amount of work that needs to be submitted for the final piece was a shock but I'm sure it will be easier then it seems as we go along. I'm glad we did the preliminary exercise as it showed us how it was going to be for our final piece and gave us an idea of what idea's worked well and which ones didn't. Hopefully the things we have learnt from the preliminary exercise will show in our final piece.
